It is the first thing that catches our attention when we see a mattress, there is a wide variety of covers with their aesthetics and features that make our mattress look good aesthetically and at the same time be protected against stains and dirt, thus extending its lifespan. We have fixed covers and zipper covers depending on our preference.
What is a mattress cover made of?
The fabric that makes up our cover is an important point for our well-being and comfort during our rest period, so we recommend it be an elastic fabric to avoid wrinkles and at the same time have a good fit to the mattress morphology.
Another tip is that our mattress includes the Oeko-Tex certificate, so we ensure that both the mattress and the cover contribute to the environment and in their processes, no harmful techniques have been used, especially for covers sold separately.
Should I choose a zipper cover or a fixed one?
The first point to analyze when choosing our cover is that it has a dual characteristic that we must highlight; the first is the protection of the mattress interior, so it does not get damaged, and the second is the sensation produced by contact with our body.
At first glance, everyone thinks the best is the removable one since we can take it off and wash it to eliminate possible daily dirt and stains, although this type of fabric is characterized by its delicacy because being always in contact with the mattress core, it can be affected deteriorating and not covered by the warranty.
Our recommendation is that if we choose a removable mattress cover to obtain better hygiene, we should not wash it at home to avoid material deterioration and take it to a specialized place such as a dry cleaner, also because the cover may shrink or stretch, making it difficult to put back on the mattress.
Another downside of zipper covers is that since they are not attached to the mattress like fixed ones, when we move during the night, we unknowingly shift the fabric and those folds that bother us when resting.
The disadvantage of fixed covers is that they cannot be removed for washing and therefore, if we want good hygiene, we recommend using a protector that combined with the fitted sheet will create a barrier against potential stains.
Over time, the cover may deteriorate but it can be replaced easily and economically.

Should I buy a quilted mattress cover or an unquilted one?
Many say unquilted is better since you will feel the core’s properties directly sleeping on it, but actually we recommend a quilted one because this way youwill have a softer welcome with the mattress that cushions our body and will give us more pleasure than lying directly on the core plus it adds extra resistance to the mattress protecting it even more from possible core damage.

What treatment should my mattress cover have?
First of all, we must ensure that the features offered will last throughout the mattress’s life and will not disappear over time.
One of the most effective tests that can be carried out is the 30,000-cycle durability test: some laboratories perform this effective test to study the performance and durability over the mattress’s useful life of a certain treatment or component. To carry out this test, the wear the product will suffer during 10 years of mattress life is simulated intensively, and efficacy indices of each component and treatment are extracted. In this case, it is recommended that this test be performed by laboratories independent of the brand to ensure maximum impartiality.
