Dust mites are common guests in our homes, they accumulate especially in rooms like bedrooms, mattresses are their ideal refuge with an optimal temperature and humidity for them.
But, what are dust mites?
Dust mites are tiny, similar to small spiders. They cannot be seen with the naked eye. Dust mites are found in almost all places and there are often many in a house. They avoid light, therefore, they tend to hide inside fiber materials, in places such as mattresses, cushions, carpets, curtains, clothing and bedding.
Dust mites prefer ambient temperature with high humidity. They feed on human skin flakes, which are mainly found in bed.

We spend hours every night in contact with these creatures. It is no surprise that they cause allergic reactions in many people.
Dust mites live, on average, about a month.
During this time females lay about a hundred eggs.
Many current bedding items, as well as mattresses, cushions and duvets are anti-mite and allergen-proof, but if what we want is to eradicate these tiny beings from our bed there are many things we can do.
- Do not make the bed immediately after waking up, leave it messy and uncovered for at least half an hour, this lowers the temperature and humidity of the bed, causing many mites to leave.
- Air out both the rooms and the house every day.
- Wash bedding weekly, with very hot water to eliminate mites.
- Use dehumidifiers especially in bedrooms.
- Clean well all places where dust accumulates.
- Air out carpets, cushions, blankets, curtains…
- Reduce bedroom decoration, fewer objects, fewer mites.
- Use anti-allergen and anti-mite bedding.
- Avoid carpets and rugs, opt for tiles or wood.
- There are specific chemical products to clean fabrics that eliminate mites and prevent them from returning.
A permanent solution is to use anti-mite fabrics such as mattress and pillow covers.
