To begin with, it should be said that latex is a material that has been with us for many years. In the 1800s the first latex mattresses already existed, but this type of mattress was very heavy due to the density of the material and therefore its price was much higher.
It is made from the resin of the tree called rubber, and it is mixed with hardeners and antioxidants, the amount of latex in a mattress is very variable, although we may think that the mattress is pure latex it can contain from 20% to 97% natural product. It is considered 100% latex when it already contains 80% latex. It is not that they are cheating or deceiving you when buying a latex mattress, the reason is that latex is an organic product that needs hardening resins and stabilizing products so that it becomes a solid, stable and above all durable block.

In 1940 polyurethane was discovered, which is a much lighter material than latex and therefore had a much lower cost than latex.
Advantages of latex
It has great resistance to sinking and a soft touch very adaptable to the body. Its firmness is medium-high and very advisable for people who do not like a hard mattress and for those who like a mattress with a soft welcome.

Latex eliminates pressure on the muscles, so it is usually recommended for older people, since as we age we lose muscle mass, and therefore need a soft mattress.
Disadvantages of latex
The more natural product the mattress contains, the more delicate its care will be, we will have to be careful with humidity, it will need more breathability. This is the main problem oflatex which needs more ventilation because it can develop mold. That is why we always recommend that it must go on aslatted bed base and never on an upholstered base.
With good ventilation a latex mattress can last between 7 and 9 years.
